Wishlist or wish list: how to write it

Both “wishlist” and “wish list” are used and mean the same thing. The one-word form is common online and in apps, while the two-word form is typical in running text. In Bazhanka we write “wishlist” and use it consistently, while in the app we often simply say “list”.

If you do not want to hesitate, pick one form and keep it in the same text. Nobody will misunderstand you.

What a wishlist is

It is a list of things you would like to receive as gifts: with names, prices and links to shops. You share it with people close to you so they can choose a gift without guessing. Read more in What a wishlist is and why you need one.

How to create a wishlist online in five steps

  1. Sign up or sign in to Bazhanka: an account is free.
  2. In “Lists” create a new list and name it: “Birthday”, “Housewarming” or “Just dreams”.
  3. Add wishes: paste a link to a product and the name, price and photo are filled in automatically; you can also add a wish by hand without a link. For some shops autofill does not work, and then you fill in the fields yourself.
  4. Mark what matters most: for wishes with the “On fire!” priority gift-givers see where to look first.
  5. Choose access and send the link: a list can be private, open by link or shared in a group.

What to put in a wishlist

  • Small things under UAH 300 for those who want to please you without big spending.
  • A few mid-priced gifts for close friends.
  • One or two big wishes people can chip in for.
  • Things from different categories: comfort, hobbies, care, books, treats.

Eight to twelve items are enough: the giver has something to choose from and is not overwhelmed. Ideas for different occasions: a birthday wishlist and a wedding wishlist.

How to avoid identical gifts

When several people use your list they reserve gifts: you only see that a wish is already reserved, and who did it stays secret. So nobody gives you two identical sets and the surprise stays. To reserve a gift a guest needs to sign in or register, while viewing a list by link works without an account.

When to share the list

  • For a birthday: three or four weeks before the date.
  • For a wedding: together with the invitation.
  • For New Year or Saint Nicholas Day: two or three weeks before.

How to ask for a gift politely without sounding demanding: How to ask for a gift. And if your family wants to share lists together, create a group for friends and family.

Answers about wishlists

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a wishlist?

In Bazhanka open “Lists” and press “create list”. Add a title, a description and an event date if you like, then fill the list with wishes from links or by hand. When the list is ready, share the link.

What should I put in a wishlist?

Things at different prices: small items under UAH 300, medium gifts and a few bigger wishes. Add experiences too, such as tickets or vouchers, and things you will really use.

How many wishes should I add?

Eight to twelve is enough: it gives a choice without overwhelming the giver. Mix prices, from small things to bigger purchases.

Can I have several lists?

Yes. Separate lists for a birthday, a housewarming, a wedding or a hobby keep the occasions apart.

Can I add a wish without a link?

Yes, an idea can be added by hand: a title, a note and an approximate price. A link only helps the giver find the product faster.

Do I see who reserved a gift?

No. You only see that a wish is reserved, not by whom. The list settings have a “Surprise” mode that hides even the marks.
