What can be done online and what cannot

The draw, invitations, wishlists and the budget all happen in Bazhanka. Participants hand over the gift themselves: Bazhanka does not arrange delivery and does not collect addresses or phone numbers.

Three ways to pass a gift over a distance

  1. By post or courier. Ask the organizer or the person for an address privately, not in the group chat. Send it at least two weeks before the exchange date.
  2. A digital gift. A voucher, a service subscription, an e-book or a course needs no delivery and suits everyone.
  3. A gift through a shared meeting. If part of the team is in one city, they pass gifts on in person while the rest receive theirs by post.

The budget in different countries

In Bazhanka the budget can be set in hryvnias, euros or dollars. Keep in mind that shipping between countries costs more, so add delivery to the budget or choose a digital gift.

How to hand over gifts on a video call

  • Schedule a shared meeting on the exchange day and let everyone unwrap their gift on camera.
  • Add a game: participants guess who their Secret Santa is.
  • Ask everyone to record a short thank-you video for their Secret Santa.

Do not post addresses in the group chat or ask for them in the group. It is better if the organizer collects addresses personally or each person sends theirs only to the one who needs it.

Answers about Secret Santa

Frequently asked questions

What is Secret Santa?

It is a gift exchange inside a group: everyone secretly prepares a gift for one other person and stays anonymous until the gift is handed over. The organizer takes part like everyone else.

Is it Secret Santa or Secret Saint Nicholas?

It is the same game with different names. “Secret Santa” is the common English name and “Secret Saint Nicholas” (Таємний Миколай) suits the Ukrainian December holidays. In Bazhanka the mode is called Secret Santa and the rules are the same.

Can I run Secret Santa online for free?

Yes. Create a group in Bazhanka, invite members by email or by link and start the draw: playing is free. Members create an account, then buy and hand over the gifts themselves.

How many people do we need?

At least four, including the organizer. With fewer people the matches are too easy to guess.

Does the organizer see who gives to whom?

No. Everyone, the organizer included, sees only the person they give to. Nobody sees the whole draw.

What happens if someone leaves the game?

Before the start the person simply leaves the roster. After the draw Bazhanka repeats it automatically for the rest if at least three members remain. If only two are left, the game is canceled.
